This course examines the means by which the Polynesian people came to Hawai'i using an instrumentless science of navigation and a highly evolved technology for constructing open ocean sailing canoes. The course also examines the ways in which they prospered in the absence of metals and pottery, as well as which plants they brought with them and which native plants they learned to use.
