An introduction to the study of urban politics that examines theories of urbanism, the connections between urban society and politics, and issues of race and class in the city. The course pays particular attention to the distinctive political consequences of urbanism, especially as they affect the nature and quality of urban life, and reviews how national policies and corporations affect the ability of urban decision-makers to govern in the midst of mounting problems and declining resources.
