4 hours. This course examines the relationship between mass media and politics. We will explore the ways in which mass communications media shape the politics of elections, daily governance, U.S. foreign policy, interest groups, social movements, and identity. POLS 238 - Politics and the Internet 4 hours. This course examines the role of politics in the shaping of the internet and the role of the internet in the shaping of politics. We will study the influence and potential influence of the internet on elections, the legislative process, and interest groups. We will address questions regarding free speech, pornography, and hate speech as well as questions about privacy, security, and citizenship. Underlying all of our discussions will be a concern about democracy versus the centralization of power.
