Description:

4 hours. Students learn how to recognize deformational features such as folds, faults, joints and dikes; how to, correlate these with three dimensional geometric techniques such as folding lines and stereographic nets; and how to derive from these features the important tectonic parameters active at the time of their formation: maximum stress direction, principal stress differences, confining pressure and strain rate. Prerequisite: one geology course.
