Description:
2 hours. A laboratory course integrating synthesis, purification, analysis, and characterization of chemical species. Synthetic work includes use of controlled atmospheres, high temperatures and non-aqueous systems. Purification of compounds is by distillation and recrystallization, as well as by various chromatographic techniques. Analysis and characterization include both wet chemical and instrumental techniques. Co-requisite: CHEM 423. Prerequisites: CHEM 321 and CHEM 346 or equivalent.
