The course is designed to provide work/action experience and insight into professional roles in a variety of community agencies and organizations. The primary objective of the internship is the application of the perspectives, substantive knowledge, and methods of social science to a particular organizational setting. Thus, the internship can be understood as a participant observation experience within the context of social science research. It is primarily designed as a field experience/reflection opportunity for upper-level social science majors with substantive background/coursework in the area of internship placement. In addition to field placement, students are expected to meet for a series of internship seminars, for which readings and reports will be required.
