Irish literature in English and Irish culture will be studied in relation to three phases in the political and cultural development of Ireland as a nation: 1) the period of Irish nationalism prior to independence in 1922; 2) the formative years of nation building and its myth-making from independence to 1960; 3) 1960 to the present. 2-year cycle, fall.
