This course explores the complex interrelationship of language, culture, and social identity. Verbal art and expressive culture are examined from a variety of anthropological perspectives. Topics include ethnographies of speaking, discourse analysis, cultural performances, and the performative aspects of oral expression. (Same as COMM 3143,ENGL 3143)
