Prerequisite: admission to the secondary education minor program or consent of the instructor. An overview of methods and materials used to teach secondary mathematics, techniques considered most effective, and appropriate assessment strategies. A link between mathematics content/skills and practical applications for classroom instruction. Includes mathematics content, teaching techniques, mathematics manipulatives, and technology. Emphasis throughout on problem solving, reasoning, communication, and connections. Required for secondary mathematics teacher licensure. Two hours lecture and two hours laboratory.
