Prerequisites: junior standing, at least 20 hours in biology, consent of the instructor. Students will design and conduct an independent scientific investigation. A paper reporting on the project in journal format is required for completion of the course. The student is expected to spend two to four hours per week on the project for each hour of credit earned. The exact hourly commitment per week will depend on the nature of the project and will be agreed upon in advance by the student and instructor. No more than six hours independent study, cooperative education, and/or undergraduate research may be counted for biology elective credit (See "Indenpendent Research and Study"on page 35). One,two, or three credit hours.
