In-depth study of English syntax within contemporary theoretical paradigms. Comparisons between modern syntactic analyses and traditional methods, 214 comparisons between Standard American English and regional and ethnic varieties, the inevitable historical changes in English grammar, and pedagogical contexts/teaching issues. This course is ordinarily cross-listed with EHL 507, a graduate-level course, and will be most appropriate for advanced undergraduates.
