This course is designed to explore the history and development of jazz as an art form, from its origins as popular music to its evolution into an "Art Music." Improvisationwill be explained and explored in the context of the different styles of jazz. The course will focus on understanding through listening to jazz. Prerequisite: MU 100. Offered every other spring semester only.
