Prerequisite: BUAD 318, BUAD 325, BUAD 331, ACCT 202 (BUAD 325 and ACCT 202 may be taken as a co-requisite.) An introduction to strategic management. Topics include analysis of the firm's external and internal environments; impacts of strategic actions; and understanding how a firm's resources, capabilities, and core competencies affect the company's ability to establish a sustainable competitive advantage and achieve success. Students study the rigors of industry and competitive analysis, the ingredients of an effective strategic plan, special demands of operating in an increasingly global competitive environment, and administrative tasks associated with implementing and executing a chosen strategy. The course requires independent reading, case study analysis, and oral and written project presentations.
