An introduction to the conservation and management of wetland environments. Emphasis will be placed on the role of wetlands in maintaining water quality and strategies for multiple use management of wetland resources. Students will become familiar with basic and applied concepts in hydrology, soils and vegetation of both constructed and natural wetlands. Three one-hour lectures and two Saturday field trips. Prereq: CHEM 111 or 121, BIOL 120 or 140, MATH 140, or consent of instructor. It is the assumption of the instructor that a student has a basic understanding of biological chemistry, for example the processes of photosynthesis and respiration.
