Kinematics and dynamics of point particles and rigid bodies. 331: vector calculus applied to motion of point particles including orbits, harmonic motion, motion of constrained particle. 332: special relativity (fourvectors), motion of rigid bodies, symmetric top, physical pendulum, elastic solids. An introduction to Lagrangian and Hamiltonian formulations. Must be taken in sequence. Prereq: PHYS 220 or 211 and instructor's approval.
