Basics of organic and biological chemistry, including topics such as the study of functional groups, amino acids, lipids, carbohydrates, nucleic acids, enzymes and biochemical pathways. Experimental techniques in organic and biochemistry comprise the lab component. Three hours lecture and one three-hour lab. Prereq: CHEM 111, or CHEM 121 and the consent of instructor. A student should have completed MATH 140 or higher numbered mathematics course before registering for CHEM 112. CHEM 112 does not fulfill prerequisite requirements for any upper-division chemistry courses.
