A survey of basic institutions of government in the United States, the powers they exercise, and the practical and philosophical influences that contributed to their development. This course also examines the relationships between federal, state, and tribal sovereignty, and the differences and similarities between how these three levels of government operate and are structured. Issues such as the differential effects of and access to power experienced by various cultural groups within the United States will be explored. Students will demonstrate understand-ing of course content through in- and out-of-class writing assignments. Lecture and group discussion. $15 Course Fee. (fall/spring)
