This course is an introduction to the basic concepts and practical ways in which people defend themselves in an attack situation. The primary focus will be on strategically placed kicks, hand-strikes, joint locks, and throws. Students can expect extensive hands-on experience utilizing heavy bags and physical contact with classmates. Appropriate attire for class activities is mandatory. Students will be expected to devote out-of-class time to skill practice and research-based projects. Assessment will be based on attendance, participation, and research projects. (fall)
