This course focuses on the structure and biology of microorganisms including Archaea, bacteria, fungi, algae, protozoans, and viruses. A partial list of lecture topics includes microbial growth and nutrition, metabolism, microscopy, microbial diseases, and food microbiology. The laboratory investigates many aspects of microbiology including microbial diversity, ecology, water sampling, antibiotic susceptibility, enrichment cultures, as well as more exciting topics.
