Description:
The first course in a 2 semester sequence in astronomy. History of astronomy, development of theory, astronomical equipment and observational techniques. Course concentrates on the solar system, the sun, the planets, interplanetary matter, comets and meteors. Prerequisite: Math 1140 or Math 1720 or Math 1830 or the equivalent. 3 lectures and one laboratory (2 hours) per week. The sequence ASTR 1010-1020 may be used to satisfy the University's science requirement. Offered in the fall.
