This course will look at women as images and image makers in the history of western art from antiquity to the present, emphasizing the modern period. We will examine the works and lives of women artists and the social conditions that have affected their creativity and careers. In addition, we will explore the challenges that the gender question has posed to the subject matter of western art and the methodologies of art history.
