This course covers the history of Ireland from the 16th-century Tudor conquest through the present. Course content will include the Reformation and Counter-Reformation, conquest and plantation politics under the Tudors and Stuarts, the emergence of the Protestant ascendancy, protest and reform movements during the late 18th and 19th centuries, the famine and migration, the emergence of Gaelic nationalism, and the crisis in Northern Ireland.
