Develops fundamental methods of inquiry for studying algorithms, specifically mathematical analysis of performance and correctness, formal tools for algorithm design, and experimentation. Specific topics include the use of induction and recurrence relations in algorithm analysis; design from preconditions, postconditions, and loop invariants; and the role of the scientific method in computer science.
