A study of representative major novels emphasizing the development of the British novel as a literary form. Typical offerings are the rise of the novel; the picaresque novel; quest novels; psychological and social realism in the novel; the 19th-century British novel; and Fielding, Richardson, Austen, Dickens, and Lawrence.
