Examines the relationship between Islam and political structures in various parts of the world. The origins, development, organization, and intellectual currents within so-called Islamic "fundamentalist" groups and their relationships to the political systems within majority Muslim countries and to the West will be analyzed. Women's participation in the political process, and the relationships between Islam, socialism, democracy, and secularism will also be covered.
