An examination of the arts in Southern Europe from 1350-1600, a period of exceptional historical, religious, scientific, social and artistic change which witnessed the development of early modern ideas about humanity and the world. Consideration of the "new worlds" opened by the Renaissance -- the exploration of the Americas and the impact of the Islamic heritage -- provides a broadened foundation and additional perspective to understand and interpret the painting, sculpture, architecture and prints during the age of Botticelli, Michelangelo and Titian.
