(0-3-1) Fundamentals of topographic maps. Use of a compass and portable GPS (Global Positioning System). Map scale, resolution, and accuracy. Projections and coordinate systems. Differential GPS corrections. A series of self-paced tutorials on CD followed by an extended, instructor-led field exercise conducted on a designated Saturday. Basic computer proficiency is expected.
