This course is a condensed and comprehensive introduction to the history of Western art from prehistorical times to the 21st century. The basic purpose of the course is three-fold: to examine a selection of the most significant monuments of creative endeavor which constitute the canon of Western art; to contextualize succinctly, with historical references and coetaneous examples in other media (especially literature), those monuments; and, finally, to engage students in the ongoing discourse which determines and revises the canon and the ways in which we see and interpret works of art. 3 credits Prerequisites: None Type: lecture/seminar(3hrs) Culturally Diverse Content Enrollment: all college required
