"Glory of Ancient Greece: Gods, Politics, and Art" will survey the private and public art and architecture produced in Greece and its colonies in the east and west. Emphasis will be placed on the interrelationships among art, mythology, religion, athletics, and history. The class will first discuss the early periods before the people known as Greeks and continue with the formation of the Greek city-state and the rise of Athens as a cultural center of the Greek world in the mid-5th century B.C.E.
