A software and hardware study of the 80x86 microprocessors and the personal computer. System architecture. Assembly language programming using an editor, the Assembler, DEBUG, and Codeview. Support chips including memory, and parallel I/0 ports. Interfacing and control of I/O ports. I/0 devices include switch encoder, keyboard, optical and Gray shaft encoders, bar code wand, stepper motor, and temperature controller. The associated laboratory reinforces the topics covered in theory through relevant experiments performed by the student. Prerequisite(s): EET 251 and EET 327 (3,2) 4 credits Fall
