3 hours--Prereq.: 2273 and 2511. This course will present content about the history and the current provisions of social welfare services, the role of social policy in helping or deterring people maintaining or achieving optimal health and well being, and the effect of policy on social work practice. The course will provide frameworks to analyze current social policy within the context of historical and contemporary factors that shape policy in light of the principles of social and economic justice. Political and organizational processes used to influence policy will be examined to recognize the process of policy formulation and the mechanisms of oppression and discrimination. (Offered Spring Only)
