Medical and forensic applications, study of biolecules, metabolism, and transmission of genetic information. The structures, properties and biochemical functions of mono- and polysaccharides, lipids, amino acids, proteins and nucleic acids are introduced. Metabolic pathways and cycles for the catabolism and anabolism of sugar, triglycerides, steroids, amino acids, proteins, and polynucleotides are detailed. Energetics, and potential fates of chemical intermediates, and information storage and transmission are studied. Prerequisite: CHEM 326 3
