3 lab hrs, 1 cr A laboratory course that teaches methods to evaluate the performance of air handling and air conditioning systems. Students learn how to use a sling psychrometer, balometer, pitot tube and draft gauge, Alnor Velometer, anemometers, computer data loggers and sound level meters. They are introduced to operating, testing and calibrating procedures for HVAC system pneumatic controls. Students will work with different types of air conditioning equipment, from residential and small commercial split and packaged air conditioning and heat pump systems, to a larger chilled water system, which uses a cooling tower and chilled water distribution to separate air handlers. Students write individual laboratory reports on the performance testing of ducts, diffusers, controls and air conditioning systems. Prerequisites: ENVC 1110/EC 110, ENVC 1111/EC 111; pre- or corequisite: ENVC 2322/EC 322
