2 cl hrs, 2 lab hrs, 3 cr An introduction to physical metallurgy and engineering materials. Structure of materials and their applications. Properties of materials, ferrous and non-ferrous metals, alloys, polymers, ceramics composites, adhesives and lubricants. Heat treatment, cold and hot working, phase diagrams and microstructure. Experiments are performed on hardness, plastic deformation, annealing, nondestructive testing, metallurgy and computer problem-solving. Pre- or corequisite: PHYS 1433/SC 433 or equivalent
