2 cl hrs, 3 lab hrs, 3 cr This course concentrates on optical networks. The topics include evolution and classification of optical networks; architecture, protocols and standards; switching and routing in optical networks, including circuit switching and trends in packet and burst switching along with label switching; design issues in optical networks; management of optical networks, including tests, measurements and monitoring. A special session is devoted to accessing optical networks. The main focus of this course is the current status and future trends in the developing optical networks, providing students with advanced career preparation. Prerequisites: TCET 4152/TC 730, TCET 4162/TC 760
