2 cl hrs, 3 lab hrs, 3 cr The course covers concepts of wireless systems. It discusses propagation effects, including loss, dispersion, fading, transmission and reception; mobile systems, including analysis and design principles of base and mobile units; micro cells and pico cells; cell division, including frequency use and reuse; concepts of FDMA, TDMA and CDMA; error rates and outage probability. Computer simulations and hard wired experiments dealing with RF spectrum, outdoor and indoor propagation, cellular concept, DSSS, IEEE 802.11 WLAN and CDMA are parts of laboratory exercises. Prerequisites: MAT 1372/MA 372, MAT 1572/MA 372, MAT 1575/MA 575, TCET 3102/TC 500
