3 cl hrs, 3 cr Introduces students to the comprehensive assessment, evaluation and treatment-planning model utilized with alcohol and substance abusing clients. Provides students with the knowledge and skill to conduct a screening or intake interview both for individuals and families, utilizing appropriate screening instruments for assessing alcohol and substance abuse. In addition, students become familiar with a suicide assessment format, a mental status exam and the DSM IV Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. The scope of the course includes culturally sensitive assessment and treatment planning related to African Americans, Latinos, adolescents, gay men and women, older adults and the cognitively and physically disabled.
