Examines how children learn to read and write and the teacher's role in these processes. Using a balanced approach to literacy instruction, students learn to select materials; employ strategies to meet the cognitive and affective literacy needs of all children; and collect, integrate, and use data from various forms of assessment to inform teaching and learning processes. Includes a field-based experiential component. PREREQ: Admission to Teacher Education. COREQ: ED-LTCY 342 (NOTE: Except for Early Childhood Education/Early Childhood Special Education).
