The first semester of a one-year sequence course. A thorough study of the fundamentals of chemistry, including atomic and molecular structure, stoichiometry, chemical reactions in solutions, gases, thermochemistry, basic quantum theory, chemical periodicity, and elementary chemical bonding. CHEM 111 assumes that students without one year of high school chemistry have completed a semester preparative course (see CHEM 99). PREREQ: MATH 143 or MATH 147 or successful completion of the CHEM 111 Math exam. COREQ: CHEM 111L.
