The era of Chaucer, like that of Shakespeare, was one of intense literary activity and experimentation. This course will focus primarily on two or three authors from each period, including Chaucer and the Gawainpoet Spenser, and Sidney, with short prose readings to flesh out the historical and intellectual contexts of both eras.
