3 hours The class will explore dramatic structure and the basic principles of playwriting and apply them to the writing of a one-act play. Through a combination of class discussion, the reading and discussion of short plays (including student written work), and specific writing projects and exercises, students will complete a minimum of two (2) drafts of a complete short play, 20 to 30 minutes in length. The completed plays will be read in class as part of the final project. One or more of the student-written plays may be considered for public production in the Burnett Center as readings, staged readings, or, in some cases, produced as a student-directed project. Prerequisites: TH111, EN101, or their equivalents, or consent of instructor.
