2 hours A study of way and means to adapt the regular physical education program to meet the needs of students for whom special provision must be made to enable them to achieve optimum development. A broad spectrum of teaching environments from total inclusion to institutional learning will be explored. The course will include a brief study of the characteristics of special children, including the physically disabled, mentally disabled and perceptually handicapped as well as an understanding of the input, integration, and output sensory systems. The physically gifted will also be studied.
