Lecture, three hours. Requisites: Mathematics 3A and 3B (or 31A and 31B), Physics 1A and 1B (or 6A and 6B), Statistics 12 or 13. Examination of physics of energy, history of energy development, and role that energy plays in our economy, particularly in transportation and power grid. Prospects for decreasing availability of fossil fuels and impact of global warming on energy development. Current and potential future government and social responses to energy issues.
