(Same as Women's Studies M124.) Lecture, four hours. Examination of current topics at intersection of gender and language. Topics include sex differentiation in language cross-culturally; sex bias in lexicon and usage; sex differences in lexicon, syntax, phonology, and nonverbal behavior; development of sex-differentiated language in children; "women's" an"men's" language in various racial/ethnic/class/sexuapreference groups; and conversational interaction.
