The purpose of this course is to awaken in the student an awareness of the toxic nature of materials in the environment in which we live. Alternatives to the current practices that pollute our air, water, and biota will be dealt with. A study of ecosystem dynamics will be undertaken. Topics of a global nature such as acid rain, desertification, greenhouse effect, and risk assessment, will be addressed. Topics of more local interest, Lofell Landfill, PCBs in the Hudson River, and the Grass River disaster will be examined. A combination of lectures, field trips and discussions will be offered. Prerequisites: BIO 104, 105, or equivalent. Take BIO-104 BIO-105;
