Rabbi Abraham Isaac Kook was the first Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi of Israel, and one of the leading intellectual and religious leaders of Jewry in the first part of the twentieth century. Convinced that the return of Jews to Israel marked the beginning of the Divine redemption, Rabbi Kook participated in a range of Zionist activities. The course includes readings from Lights of Penitence, Lights of Holiness, and letters and poems of Rabbi Kook. Prerequisite: Department approval. 1.5 credits.
