Principles of physical geology that illustrate how the Earth acts as an integrated system involving dynamic interactions between its various layers. Topics include: geologic hazards (earthquakes, sea level rise, tsunami waves and storm surges, coastal erosion), environmental deterioration (pollution, greenhouse effect, industrial accidents), geology and urban necessities (water supply, building materials). Also covered will be concepts of stratigraphy, sedimentary processes, plate tectonics and deformation of the Earth's crust. 3 credits.
