Focus on the rise of episcopal authority, the origins and popular appeal of monasticism and the early papacy. Includes selections from the New Testament, the church fathers of the East and Saint Augustine. Prerequisites: Sophomore standing or permission of instructor. Three hours per week with enhancement.
