Introduction to the cultural, political, economic and social growth and problems in Ireland since circa 1500. Emphasis is on the development of Ireland's nationalism, separate and distinct from Great Britain with which it was entwined and involved for so many generations. Attention focuses on the history and problems in Northern Ireland and its position in the United Kingdom. Prerequisites: Sophomore standing or permission of instructor. Three hours per week with enhancement. Meets General Education IIB.
