A study of English literature, exclusive of Shakespeare, from 1500 to 1660. Authors studied may include, but are not limited to, More, Sidney, Spenser, Marlowe, Donne, Jonson, Lanyer, Marvell and Milton. Pays special attention to the period's rich and varied modes of poetry, fiction, drama and nonfictional prose. May not receive credit for both ENGL 414 and ENGL 472. Prerequisite: C or better in ENGL 102 or 103. Three hours per week with enhancement. Meets General Education IB (Prior to Fall 2008: IA).
